Leo J. Metivier, Jr., 74, of New Bedford died Wednesday April 22, 2015 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Leo J. and Malvina M. (Perry) Metivier, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Metivier was formerly employed as a general manager and head of security at Chamberlain Manufacturing.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1961.
He was a past president of the United Auto Workers local. He was an avid New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Metivier and his fiancée Rachel Peters of Fall River; his siblings, Muriel Metivier of Wareham, Irene Ricardo of New Bedford, and Richard Metivier; his daughter-in-law, Lyn Metivier; four grandchildren, Ian, Stefan, Chelsea, and McKenzie Metivier; a great-grandson, Julian Sanchez; and nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Paul Metivier.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday May 2, 2015 at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with visitation prior to the service from 8:30-10 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
