Steven W. Piantek, age 53, passed away on April 26, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Springfield, MA and was raised in West Springfield and Chicopee. He was a graduate of West Springfield High School where he was on the ski and track teams. After high school, he attended Springfield Technical Community College as well as played softball. He was employed as a truck driver at A.B. Container in Enfield, CT for many years. Steven loved the outdoors, nature, and the beaches of Cape Cod and Florida. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and scuba diver. For many years, he attended the NASCAR races with his beloved friends. He was also a member of the Pioneer Valley Sportsmen Club where he devoted many hours. In his spare time, Steven coached Little League Baseball teams as well as his children’s soccer, basketball and softball teams. He was a kind and gentle soul. “No” was not a word in his vocabulary and he would help anyone in need. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Steven leaves behind his son Justin and his wife Ashley and daughter Jamie of Chicopee. His mother Sandra Piantek and stepfather Joseph Siepietowski of West Springfield, his great aunt Sister Marie Ruth Page of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit in Putnam, CT; His former wife Karen Piantek of Chicopee and sister and brother-in-law Lori and Jim Burkavage of Feeding Hills. He also leaves behind his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Calling hours will be held at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee, on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Liturgy in Assumption Church.
