Gregory A. Charest, 39, of 57 Grant St. died February 10, 2005 in Lakes Region General Hospital surrounded by his family and his extended family of caregivers. He was born in Providence RI on November 7, 1965, the son of the late Aime L. Charest and Cecile E. (Bobay) Charest.
He grew up in Concord NH and moved with his family to Laconia in 1979. Gregory attended Memorial Middle School, and then went on to vocational opportunities through Easter Seals of NH. He worked at IPC and other community businesses.
He operated G. C. Recycling since 1994, with the help of his close friend and longtime caregiver, Bill Colangeli. Numerous businesses and families supported his recycling, and despite his communication limitations, Greg touched the hearts of many. Greg’s family is truly grateful for the love and friendship so many community members have shown Greg throughout his life.
He is survived by his mother, Cecile Charest of Middletown CT; two sisters, Lisa Charest of Gilmanton and Christine Aliouche of Hampton NH; a brother, David Charest of Middletown CT; two nieces; three nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins. Gregory is further survived by a staff of caregivers that helped Greg to live a full life and who surrounded him with love and tenderness at the time of his death.
There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 50 Washington St. on Saturday, February 19 at 11 AM. A Celebration of Greg’s Life was held at 12noon in Our Lady of the Lakes Parish Center, for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Greg to Easter Seals, 55 Auburn St., Manchester NH 03103. This fund will help families of individuals with special needs in times of crisis.
