Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister
TEWKSBURY: Jean C. (Gallant) Porter, age 75, a resident of Tewksbury for the past 9 years, entered into rest on Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was the beloved wife of Clyde O. Porter, who passed away on January 21, 2004.
Born in Lawrence on September 30, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Henry W. Gallant, Sr. and the late Adele E. (McPhee) Gallant.
Jean was raised in Andover and attended St. Augustine’s Parochial School. Upon moving to Lowell, she attended Lowell High School.
Jean resided in Dracut, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Lowell until moving to Tewksbury in 2006.
She was a communicant of St. William’s Parish of Tewksbury. She was an active member of the Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks Emblem Club,Tewksbury Golden Age Club, Senior Drop-in-Center, as well as the Tewksbury Red Hat Society.
She enjoyed crocheting prayer shawls for ministry, taking family camping trips, visiting Foxwoods Resort & Casino, as well as playing cribbage and bingo.
Jean is survived by two children, Jean M. “Shelley” Carew and her husband Arte J. Carew, Jr. of Dracut and Michael J. Porter and his fiancé Anita Anderson of Brockton ; six grandchildren, Christine Carew, Artie Carew, Adam Carew and his fiancé Carissa Cournoyer, Ashley Pike, Heidi Porter, and Abigail Porter; one great-grandson, Jameson Carew; three brothers, Henry W. Gallant, Jr. of Old Town, FL, Leonard A. Gallant and his wife Nancy of Chester, NH, Raymond Gallant and his wife Josie of Medford; her brother-in-law, Thomas Campbell of Wakefield; her sister-in-law, G. Joan Johnston of Eucha, OK; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jean was the mother of the late Clyde “Hank” Porter and sister of the late Priscilla Campbell, Marie Shorten, Eleanor Allain, and Gerald Gallant.
Calling hours are Monday, April 27, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
