Gina (DeJoia) Colonna, of Somerville, founder of Project Outlook, died Thursday at Elmhurst Nursing Home, Melrose. She was 78.
Mrs. Colonna was born in Italy and lived most of her life in Somerville. Gina became blind as an adult and used her energy to help others. She worked for the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind. She founded Project Outlook an organization which did outreach work for blind people. Through her tireless efforts, the lives of thousands of people were improved.
She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony. She was a dear sister-in-law to George Colonna and his wife Maria, and Helen Mastromauro and her husband Frank, all of Medford. Gina also leaves many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Monday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
