Nada L. St. Aubin, 88, of Westport Harbor, Ma. died February 12, 2005 at Hallworth House in Providence. She was the widow of Leo F. St. Aubin to whom she was married for 61 years.
Born in Fall River on December 27, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Kaitan J. and Anastazya Lucas who immigrated to Fall River from Kiev, Russia and Lubuov, Austria in the very early 1900's. She was the sister of the late Nicholas K. Lucas of Old Greenwich, Ct. She lived in New Bedford and New Seabury Cape Cod before retiring to Westport Harbor in 1990.
Mrs. St. Aubin was a graduate of Durfee High School and an early alumna of Bryant College. Soon thereafter she worked as a secretary and newspaper reporter for the society pages of the Providence Journal, and later helped run several family businesses as bookkeeper and advisor for many years. Her avid interest in newspapers continued to her last days.
While she was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church, New Bedford and St John the Baptist Church in Westport she was most ecumenical in spirit. She was active in the Catholic Women's Club, the New Bedford Women's Club, serving as president of both for many years. She was an active member of the New Bedford Whaling Museum, the Wamsutta Club, the New Bedford Mother's Club, the Saint Luke's Hospital Women's Auxiliary, and upon moving to Westport Harbor, the Westport Art Group, The Westport Historical Society, the Elephant Rock Beach Club, The Westport Council on Aging, and the Westport Women's Group, all of which she enjoyed tremendously.
She was a gifted and award winning craftswoman who particularly enjoyed needlepoint and decorative arts. She was an avid reader and stayed knowledgeable about current events throughout her entire life, and was interested in worldwide travel with her husband, Leo, well into their 80's.
Nada worked hardest at, and felt her greatest accomplishment was being a supportive and loving daughter, wife, mother, guardian, grandmother and great-grandmother to her entire family, by whom she will be greatly missed. Nada loved talking! She loved listening even more and never wanted to miss a thing.
She is survived by a daughter, Marjorie St. Aubin Clifford and her husband, Peter, of Lewiston, Maine; three sons, Robert F. St. Aubin and his wife Deanna of Monarch Beach, Ca., Richard K. St. Aubin and wife, Eileen, of Little Compton, RI, and David K. St. Aubin and his wife, Kendra, of Marion, Ma; six grandchildren, Kevin, Anne, Sean, Adrienne, Jeffrey, and Gregory; eight great-grandchildren, Ryan, Maeve, Jared, Adam, Livia, Magdalene, Simeon, and Matthias, and by her niece, Katy Cash of Abaco, Bahamas, and nephew, Nick Lucas of Stamford, Ct. and their families.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on February 14th at 9AM at St. Lawrence Church, New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven, Ma. Special thanks to all the staff at Hallworth House, 66 Benefit Street, Providence, RI who helped make Nada's past year and final passing so comforting and inspiring.
