Raymond E. Garnett, 78, of New Bedford died Thursday February 10, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Lydia (McMullen) Garnett.
Born and raised on Nantucket, the son of the late George W. and Anne E. (Bogdanoff) Garnett, he had lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Garnett was formerly employed by the U.S. Government as a fuel supply engineer at Otis Air Force Base and Newport Naval Base. He later worked for Northeast Petroleum in Newport, RI.
Mr. Garnett served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and shopping.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce E. Garnett, and his wife Linda, and Steven A. Garnett, and his life partner Cindy Glines, all of New Bedford; a daughter, Lynn E. Garnett of Dartmouth; his special friends who cared for him during his illness, Kathleen Besso of New Bedford and Tammy Hunter of Dartmouth; two brothers, James Garnett and Richard Garnett, both of Nantucket; two sisters, Frances Starr of Nantucket and Helen Ponte of Fairhaven; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Paul E. Garnett and Thomas A. Garnett, grandfather of the late Michelle Garnett, and brother of the late William, George, Donald and Henry Garnett, Ann Allison and Doris Walski.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday February 14, 2005 at 9 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Sunday February 13, 2005 from 4-8 PM.
