Obituary

WEBSTER – Alfred H. Fritzsche, 85, of 38 Union Point Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, in the St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester. His wife of 55 years, Rosalie M. (Stafford) Fritzsche, died in 2002.

He leaves a son, Paul A. Fritzsche and his wife Anne D. Rodier of Kennebunk, Maine; a daughter, Anne C. Mahler and her husband Andy of Sutton; and seven grandchildren.

He was born and raised in Webster, the son of Alfred P. and Frances (Harbort) Fritzsche. He lived here before moving to Oxford for 15 years, when he returned to Webster. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1938, and was a three sport athlete, including playing first base for the school’s varsity baseball team.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and played against Ted Williams and Charlie Gehringer.

Mr. Fritzsche worked at American Woolen Company until 1955. He then was a steel worker at Wyman Gordon Co. in Worcester until he retired in 1981.

He was a longtime member of the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post # 184 and also the Webster Lodge of Elks # 1466

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, Feb. 12, in Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main St. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. A calling period will be from 9:30 to 11:00 Saturday morning in the funeral home.
