Obituary

William "Bill" Gamble Moore, 84, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, formerly of Albany, passed away Friday, April 17, 2015, at his residence. A graveside funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 25, 2015, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. in the parlor of the First ARP Church in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Mr. Moore was born in Sumter County, South Carolina, the son of the late Thomas Albert and Maggie Godwin Moore. He was also preceded in death by all his siblings, Richard Moore, Irma McDonald, Virginia Phillips, Sylvia Anderson and Alberta DuRant; and his brothers-in-law, Neil McDonald and Keith Phillips. He was a 1953 graduate of Clemson University and served in the United States Army as a lieutenant in the Corp of Engineers in Germany.

Mr. Moore's career was devoted to engineering and management, serving as a corporate officer of Lilliston Implement Corporation in Albany, as an officer of engineering and manufacturing with FMC in Jonesboro, Arkansas and, later, with Allied Products in Selma, Alabama. He completed his career with McMillan Bloedel at their U. S. Corporate office in Montgomery, Alabama. He served as national president of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers in 1978. Bill, as he was known, was also devoted to civic and religious endeavors in Georgia, Arkansas and Alabama. When he moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina, he became a member of First ARP Church. In the 1970s, he was a trustee for Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. He was also a long-time member and supporter of the Masonic Order, having received his 50th anniversary ceremonial apron at Lodge 591 in Albany. He was a Knights Templar and a member of Hasan Shrine Temple.

Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Bennie Baker Moore of Rock Hill, South Carolina; his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Noel and Dawn Moore of Jonesboro, Arkansas; his daughter, Mary Katharine Skibinski of Charlotte, North Carolina; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Savanna and Josh Smith, Caleb and Haven Moore, all of Arkansas, Sarah, Jack, Luke and Maris Skibinski, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Moore; his brothers-in-law, Sam Anderson and Ryan DuRant; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family expresses their deep appreciation to friends, family and the wonderful people at Regency Hospice for all the thoughtfulness and excellent care.
