L. Virginia (Polson) Styles, 85, formerly of Mayside Lane, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2005, in Autumn Village Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Her husband of 38 years, William P. Styles, died in 1980. She was born in Worcester on October 10, 1919, daughter of Edwin S. and Anna T. (Johnson) Polson and graduated from Commerce High School in 1938. Mrs. Styles resided in Cherry Valley for many years before moving back to Worcester 24 years ago. She was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of the Emerald Club of the Worcester Elks Lodge, and member and secretary of the Mayside Tenant’s Association. She was the manager at Rhoda’s Bridal Salon, fabric dept. manager at Zayre’s store for many years, and she worked at Fairlawn Hospital until her retirement in 1984.
She leaves her daughter, Lynne M. (Styles), wife of Gerald W. Thurber of Worcester; three grandchildren, Terri Lynne (Thurber), wife of Mark A. Parker of Evansville, IN; Shawn William Thurber and his wife, Kalinka D. of Mandeville, LA; and Kelly Lynne Thurber of Worcester; six great-grandchildren, Bailey Styles Parker, Brook Alyssa Parker, and Ryan Hutson Parker, all of Evansville, IN, and Mikaela Deborah Thurber, Alaina Kerry Thurber, and Gabriella Allesandra Thurber, all of Mandeville, LA; and many nieces and nephews. A granddaughter, Kerry Lynne Thurber, predeceased her in 1995. She was also predeceased by a brother, Edwin S. Polson, and 7 sisters, Anna Babbitt, Ellen Boucher, Edith Riley, Esther Wiegersma, Ethel Marvin, Linnea O’Brien, and Florence Andrews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12. at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. A calling hour will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Autumn Village Resident’s Fund, 25 Oriol Drive, Worcester, MA 01605.
