James F. “Capt. Jim” Corbett, 73 of Danvers, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at his home surrounded by loving family. He was the loving husband of Linda C. (Levesque) Corbett with whom he shared 35 years together and 28 years of a wonderful marriage. He was born in Kinston, North Carolina to the late Fred H. Corbett and Mamie Jane (Jarman) Corbett.
At the age of 18 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country honorably. After the military, he went on to a career in electrical engineering. Then, at the age of 45, he changed gears and pursued his passion for boating and established his own marine service company, C&C Marine. Ten years later, he joined his wife Linda at Nautical Traders, Inc in Salem. Jim enjoyed his daily interactions with customers, always willing to give advice and share his expertise with both the novice and experienced boaters alike.
Jim was a past member of the Danversport Yacht Club and Jubilee Yacht Club. Jim was also a ship’s Captain and enjoyed delivering boats up and down the eastern seaboard. In the summer, Jim was all about boating. In the winter, he loved home improvement projects. Jim had a strong love of animals and his dog, Bogie, was a constant companion and support to him during his illness of the past year. Jim and Linda enjoyed their annual trips to Florida. His favorite vacation spot was Disneyworld, which everyone knew.
Jim will be sincerely missed by his brother and best friend Max Corbett and his niece Lisa Corbett whom he loved like a daughter.
In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by a sister, Shirley A. Kerr and husband James of Cornelius, NC, a brother, Max R. Corbett of Beverly, his mother-in-law, Claire Levesque of Salem, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Fred H. Corbett of Kinston, NC.
