James A. “Jim” Collins, 100 of Londonderry, NH, died Wednesday, February 9, 2005 in Laurel Center Genesis Eldercare, Bedford, NH. Mr. Collins was born in Harrison, NJ on September 18, 1904, a son of the late Patrick and Delia (Murphy) Collins. He was a resident of Londonderry since 1970, formerly living in Salisbury, MD. Jim was one of ten children born to Irish immigrant parents in Harrison, NJ. At the age of eleven, he ran away from home to join the circus, ride the rails and see the country. He worked in the trucking industry as a driver for Moston Trucking Company in Baltimore, MD for 50 years before "retiring" to Londonderry. He then worked for Shaws Supermarket for another twenty-one years to keep himself busy. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas, Derry. His wife and children were his pride and joy.
He is survived by a brother, Joseph F. Collins of Long Beach, CA, a sister, Alice Collins of Akron, OH, two grandsons, Don and Ron, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy C. (Barr) Collins in 2001, his son Patrick Collins and his daughter Patricia Collins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 11th at 11:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry, NH. Friends may call on Friday morning from 9:00 - 10:15am at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St. Derry. Burial will be in the Spring in Holy Cross Cemetery, Londonderry, NH.
