PORTSMOUTH, NH- Stephen W. Wrobleski, 83, husband of Stacia A. (Mizioch) Wrobleski, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, died Thursday evening in the Edgewood Center in Portsmouth following a short illness.
Born in Danvers on August 31, 1918, he was the son of the late Walter and Helen (Struzinski) Wroblewski.
A military retiree, he was a veteran of WWII and Korea, having served with the US Army for over twenty years, retiring in 1965 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. During WWII, he served in the European Theater in the Fourth Army Division, Third Army under Gen. George Patton. During the Korean War, he served in the First Calvary Division in 1951 to 1952, and followed with a second tour of duty in Korea in 1963 to 1964. During his military career, he was the recipient of the Bronze Star, The Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and numerous campaign and battle stars.
A resident of Portsmouth for the past 16 years, he came from Salem where he lived for 20 years. He was a member of both the St John The Baptist Church in Salem and the St James Church in Portsmouth.
Besides his wife, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage, he is survived by one brother, Sigmund Wroblewski of Danvers, one sister and brother-in-law, Regina and Alexander Kowalski of Salem, four nephews and their spouses, Paul Kowalski of Salem, Phillip (and Susan) Kowalski of Gloucester, John (and Maureen) Kingsley of Windham, NH, George (and Linda) Kingsley of Danvers and 5 great nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Theresa Kingsley and one niece, Barbara (Kingsley) Shough.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at the St John The Baptist Church, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Monday, 5 to 8 pm. Burial is in St Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
