Anna (Rogers) Rocha, 78, of New Bedford, died February 6, 2005, unexpectedly at home.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Frank and Augusta (Cardoza) Rogers, she had lived in New Bedford for all of her life.
Mrs. Rocha was formerly employed as a teacher at Roosevelt Junior High School for many years until her retirement. While there, she took pride in teaching Cape Verdean bilingual lessons and was instrumental in helping the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Education to set qualifications for this program.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Rocha was a member of the New Bedford Teachers Association and the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and was a volunteer at Bishop Stang High School. She was an avid music lover.
She was a graduate of Southeastern Massachusetts University.
Survivors include 4 sons, Leonard F. Rocha, and his wife Brenda, Serveriano "Buddy" Rocha, Leslie Thomas Rocha, and his wife Maria, all of New Bedford, and Lee D. Rocha, and his wife Pauline, of Waterford, Conn.; 2 daughters, Linda Nalle of Portsmouth, RI, and Lynne Rucker, and her husband Bennett, of Stuart, Virginia; 4 brothers, Henry Rogers of Scituate, Joseph Rogers of Ocala, Fla., and Roger Barros and Frank Barros, both of New Bedford; 5 sisters, Josephine Lomba, Mary Brown, Evelyn Vieira, Cynthia DeBarros and Cheryl Costa, all of New Bedford; a brother-in-law, Luiz Rocha of Riverhead, NY; 2 sisters-in-law, Grace Cruz of New Bedford and Ezabel Andrade of Dartmouth; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Manuel Rodriques, John Rogers, Olive Rodericks and Candida Sousa.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday, February 11th at 8 AM.
Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Thursday, February 10th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
Interment St. John's Cemetery.
