TEWKSBURY: Grant H. Starling, age 42, a lifelong resident of Tewksbury, died Thursday, February 3, 2005 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester following an apparent heart attack.
He was born in Lowell on April 30, 1962, the son of Sylvia H. (Roberts) Starling of Tewksbury and the late Richard A. Starling.
Mr. Starling attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Shawsheen Valley Technical High School of Billerica with the Class of 1980.
Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his honorable discharge on September 7, 1984, Mr. Starling was stationed at Loring Air Force Base in Maine, where he specialized in aircraft engine repair.
Mr. Starling was currently self employed as a contractor and Title 5 inspector. He was a member of Local # 4 and assisted in the construction of the “Big Dig” central artery project. In addition, he also participated in the expansion project at Logan International Airport in Boston.
He enjoyed many outdoor activities including mountain biking, camping and hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and sea kayaking and surfing off Hampton Beach and Plum Island.
Mr. Starling also enjoyed and was receiving formal instruction in drawing at the Art Center of Chelmsford.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his girlfriend; Cheryl A. Conway of Tewksbury; 1 sister; Lynne A. Starling and her husband Ronald A. Lachica of Inman, SC; 1 brother; R. Russell Starling and his wife Kathleen (Donahue) of Tewksbury; 2 nieces; Stephanie Starling of Tewksbury and Camryn Lachica of Inman, SC; 1 nephew; Stephen Starling of Tewksbury; his maternal grandmother; Hope (Haines) Roberts of Tewksbury; also many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Starling was the maternal grandson of the late Harold L. Roberts and paternal grandson of the late Richard A. and Marjorie (Knowlton) Starling.
Calling hours Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY. Funeral services Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery.
