Rodney L. Smith, age 53, passed away on April 11, 2015 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 16, 1962 in Logan, West Virginia. He worked at the Sheraton Hotel as part of the kitchen staff for many years. He was an avid fisherman and Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed watching basketball, football and playing Keno. He leaves his loving wife Michele (Turcotte) Smith of Chicopee; his mother Norma Murphy of Landover, MD; 1 daughter, Lathisa Smith of Raleigh, NC; 2 brothers, Frederick Murphy of MD and Roshord Murphy of GA; 3 sisters, Cheryl, Jetaun and Melody Murphy all of Landover, MD; 19 grandchildren; 6 step children, Lesley Turcotte of Springfield, Natalie Turcotte of Chicopee, Jayson Turcotte of Springfield, Kevin Turcotte of West Springfield, Renee Reno of Chicopee and Tiffany Reno of West Springfield. He also leaves his Aunt Bunnie of Landover, MD and his Uncle John Smith of Springfield. He is predeceased by his sister Michelle Murphy. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 16th from 5-7 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. Funeral will be private at the convenience of the family.
