John P. Ruggiero, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, passed away on Wednesday February 2, 2005 , after a brief illness, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 85 years old. He was the beloved husband of “Charlie” (Walsh) Ruggiero for over 60 years.
Born April 15, 1919 in Stoughton, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Clorinda (Cuccinadi) Ruggiero.
He attended Stoughton Public Schools and Stoughton High School.
After high school, Mr. Ruggiero served his country proudly with the United States Army, and was a veteran of World War II.
After returning home from his active military duty, Mr. Ruggiero became the Co- Founder of his family business, Ruggiero Brothers Ice and Oil Company in Stoughton, which still exists to this day and is being operated by his son Dennis as Ruggiero and Son Oil Company.
He was also employed by the former Simeone Stone Corporation in Stoughton, MA for over forty years.
He loved scratch tickets and patronizing “Jimmys” Market.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Linda Gillis of Stoughton,MA, Terry Ruggiero of Napa, California, Dennis Ruggiero and Mark Ruggiero, both of North Easton, MA, Keith Ruggiero of Stoughton, MA and Jack Ruggiero of Moreno Valley, California. He is also survived by his sister , Rosalie Federico of East Bridgewater, MA. He was also the father of the late Charlene Fitzwilliam and brother of the late Philip, Brandison, Alfred, Lawrence, Frank and Octavio Ruggiero. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 9 great-granchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday February 9, 2005 at 9:30 A.M. in the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
Visiting hours are on Tuesday February 8, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.
