Obituary

CHICOPEE – Roger A. Menard, 91, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, April 11, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at Renaissance Manor on Cabot in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on Lafayette Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on March 23, 1924, a beloved son of the late Aldor F. and Emma (Chevalier) Menard. He was raised in Aldenville, graduated from Mount Carmel Elementary and High Schools in Willimansett and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. Prior to his service to our country, he was employed by the former Springfield Armory. He then served his country in the United States Army during World War II with the Headquarters Port Terminals, New York Port Embarkation in Brooklyn, New York and attained the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. Following his military service, he returned to Chicopee and worked at the Stevens Arms Company in Chicopee Falls. He was last employed as a Gunsmith at Savage Arms in Westfield and retired in 1968. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a proud member of the National Rifle Association and a longtime member of the Chicopee Sportsmen’s Club. Most of all, he was a wonderful provider to his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Rose I. (Roncarati) Menard who was Called Home on April 19, 2010. They were married on September 20, 1943 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 66 years of happiness together. He leaves his four loving children, Sandra L. Ezold and her husband, Herb, of Holyoke, Alan R. Menard and his wife, Sylvia, of Chicopee, Paul R. Menard of Holyoke and Robin R. Menard and his wife, Lynn, of Belchertown; his nine cherished grandchildren; his 22 cherished great-grandchildren; his dear sister-in-law, Emily Menard of Acme, PA; his dear sister-in-law of the Roncarati family, Dorothy Broderick of Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Menard and Roncarati families. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his loving daughter, Gail Menard; his dear brother, Rene Menard; and his dear sister, Doris Suprenant. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday morning, April 15, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.). His Committal Service with US Army Military Honors will follow at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
