Obituary

ASHLAND: Robert D. Mahoney, age 89, a longtime Ashland resident, died on Thursday, April 9, 2015, in Lewiston, ME. He was beloved husband of the late Kathleen (Kelly) Mahoney for 55 years.

Born in Marlborough, he was a son of the late Robert and Angeline (Guertin) Mahoney. Bob was raised in Framingham and attended the Framingham Schools. He served with the Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was employed with the General Motors Assembly Plant in Framingham, as a carrier with Twin Maple Farms in Saxonville, and, at the time of his retirement in 1990, as a maintenance supervisor with the Framingham School Department.

Bob and Kathleen were married in Saint Patrick’s Church in Natick on June 21, 1952, and settled in Ashland where they raised their six daughters. A former member of both the Ashland VFW and Saint Cecilia’s Bishop Rice Council 4822 Knights of Columbus, he was a Communicant of Saint Cecilia’s Parish in Ashland, an avid golfer, and a longtime fan of the Red Sox. When he wasn’t enjoying the company of his girls and their families, he could often be found reading a good book.

Predeceased by Kathleen in 2007, he is survived by their six daughters, Nancy McShea and her husband Brian of Worcester, Patricia Mahoney of Ashland, Linda Miller of Winter Haven, FL, Judith Mahoney and her husband Vince deLaFlor of Chelmsford, Susan Mendillo and her husband Jim of Freeport, ME, and Kathleen Thompson of Phippsburg, ME; sister-in-law Patricia Mahoney of Hopkinton, brother-in-law Dick Kelly and his wife Judy of Needham; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John and Francis Mahoney, and Marguerite Reiss.

His funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Monday, April 13th at 9:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Ashland. Visiting hours will be Sunday, 3 – 6PM.
