Obituary

Rev. H. Stanley “Stan” Mullen, Jr., died peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Born on May 18, 1936 in Winchester, MA, where he was also raised. He was the son of the late Herbert Stanley “Babe” Mullen, Sr. and Claire E. (Hodgkins) Mullen. After graduating from Winchester High School in 1954, Stan attended Northeastern University, graduating in 1958 with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering. Changing Career paths, he enrolled at Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, receiving a Master of Divinity Degree in 1963.
That same year, he was ordained at the First Baptist Church of Winchester. For the past 50 years Stan has served as Pastor of Churches in New Hampshire and Rhode Island. He assumed the pastorate of Bliss Four Corners Congregational Church in Tiverton, RI, retiring in January 2013.
He moved to New Bedford in 1985 and served as Chaplain at the Seamen’s Bethel since 1996 as well as a fill-in Chaplain at the Caroline Chapel in New Bedford.
He was the former husband of Sally Leonardo and Debra Smith. In 2008, Stan married Mary Lou Bairos who died in 2012.
Survivors include his 2 sons: David Mullen and Brendan Ciarcia; 2 daughters: Laurel Mullen and Julie Mullen; a sister: Irene Craig; 2 grandsons: Nikolai Puchalski and Gavin Ciarcia; along with several nieces and nephews.
Stan enjoyed a lifelong interest in woodworking, music and theater, acting in several productions of Little Theater in Fall River and Your Theater of New Bedford.
A memorial service will be held at Bliss Four Corners Church, 1264 Stafford Rd., Tiverton, RI 02878 on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 10:00 A.M.
