Obituary

James Bernard “Jim” Skinner, 92, of Tifton, formerly of Fitzgerald, died Monday, April 6, 2015, at Southern Care Assisted Living in Tifton.

Graveside services will be held 1 PM, Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at the Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Michael Ruffin officiating.

Mr. Skinner was born October 18, 1922, in Quitman, Arkansas, to the late James Roy & Virginia Myrtle Hardy Skinner. He graduated high school in Centerville, Arkansas and served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. Following his service, he earned a Bachelors’ degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville followed by a Masters in Animal Husbandry. He retired as the National Supervisor for Poultry Grading having worked in the Ag Market Services Poultry Division of the United States Department of Agriculture. He moved to Fitzgerald in late 2007 coming from Arkansas. A member of First Baptist Church, Mr. Skinner was in the Fellowship Sunday school class.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Vauda Lee Farley Skinner of Tifton; a son, Larry Don & Marcia Skinner of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a daughter, Cathey & Rev. Tom Braziel of Fitzgerald; four grandchildren: Jacob & Christie Skinner of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Bethany & Tyler Herreman of Hays, Kansas, Casey & Rev. John Carroll of Danville, Virginia, and Laura Braziel of Marietta; two great-grandchildren: Bailey Skinner and Willow Skinner; and a sister, Fern Norred of Tampa, Florida.
