Obituary

Tereather (Jefferson) Simmons, 90, of New Bedford died April 5, 2015 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Theodore Simmons.
Born and raised in Angie, LA, the daughter of the late Clyde and Sarah (Ratliff) Jefferson, she lived in Cambridge, MA and Providence, RI before moving to New Bedford 35 years ago.
She was an active member of the United House of Prayer where she served as an Usher and cook.
Survivors include 4 sons, Theodore Simmons and his wife Frieda of Belgium, Rodney Simmons and his wife Barbara of Washington, DC, and James Simmons and Thomas Simmons, both of New Bedford; 3 daughters, Lorraine Simmons of Boston, Darlene Simmons of New Bedford and Dinah Ferreira and her husband Michael of Fairhaven; a sister, Velma Cotton of Baton Rouge, LA; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Marie Simmons and Dana Judd.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, April 11th from 1:30 - 5:30 PM followed by her Home Going Service at 5:50 PM in the United House of Prayer, 419 Kempton St., New Bedford. Her graveside Service will be held on Monday, April 13th at 11:30 AM in Pine Grove Cemetery.
