
Richard Arthur Powell, age 72, of Assonet, passed away on April 6, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in New Bedford, he was the loving husband of Mary (Torres) Powell and son of Violette (Duval) Powell and the late Arthur E. Powell. Richard was an avid New England Sports fan, enjoyed travel and working outdoors in his yard. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. Richard was a Navy veteran and served during the Vietnam War on the USS Enterprise as an electronics technician. He was also a member of the American Post and a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church.
Along with his wife Mary, Richard leaves behind his siblings Thomas Powell of Dartmouth, Fr. Robert Powell of St. Lawrence Martyr Church in New Bedford, Susan Powell of Hollis, NH and Laurie Kinney (husband John) of Dartmouth. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and godchildren.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on THURSDAY here at 10 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial St. Michael’s Church at 11 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Calling hours on WEDNESDAY from 4-8 P.M. www.rogersfuneral.com.
