Obituary

CHICOPEE – Ann E. (Hopkins) Monaco, 73, of the Willimansett Heights section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Holy Saturday, April 4, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Springfield on July 18, 1941, a beloved daughter of the late Stephane D. Hopkins and Irene M. (Kelly) Hopkins. Her family lived on Florida Street in Springfield for many years and later moved to East Longmeadow. She graduated from Springfield schools and, on August 19, 1959, received her diploma from the former Doerr Academy of Beauty Culture in Springfield. She was a licensed hairdresser and owned and operated Ann Elizabeth’s Beauty Salon in Springfield. She was also an artist and later owned the Dab-A-Paint Ceramic Studio in Chicopee. She was employed at Sally’s Beauty Supply in Holyoke and was a head customer service representative at Caldor’s at the former Fairfield Mall in Chicopee. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a longtime communicant of the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee where she served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister and was currently a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee. She was also a volunteer and Eucharistic Minister for the Pastoral Department at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was a member of the Secular Franciscan Province of Saint Mary. Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Alfredo J. “Fred” Monaco. They were married on June 27, 1964 at the Cathedral of Saint Michael the Archangel in Springfield and were blessed with over 50 years of happiness together. She also leaves her two loving daughters, Domenica Mary Jesus and her husband, Mario, of South Deerfield and Carla Ann Weibel and her partner, Keith Formanek, of West Suffield, CT; her six cherished grandchildren, Kianna Maria Domenica Jesus, Mario Alpiarca Jesus, Monique Monaco Irene Jesus, Devon Anthony Jesus, Nicholas Joseph Weibel and Kaitlin Elizabeth Weibel; her cherished step-great granddaughter, Marley Fuentes; her two dear sisters and two dear brothers, Mary Bruno and her husband, Robert, of Sebastian, FL, Stephen “Bud” Hopkins and his partner, Mary, of St. Petersburg, FL, Christopher Hopkins and his wife, Vivian, of Mount Verde, FL and Ellen Doyle and her husband, Robert, of East Longmeadow; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Monaco and Hopkins families. Her funeral will be held on Thursday morning, April 9, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 56 Saint Anthony Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her burial will be private at a later date at the convenience of her family. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
