Robert Bowen, 96, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Southern Care Assisted Living in Tifton.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Big Creek Baptist Church in Irwin County with the Rev. Wayne McCrimmon officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Bowen was born April 5, 1919, in Irwin County, to the late Aaron & Betsy Mulkey Bowen. He was a lifelong farmer who formerly served on the Irwin County ASCS Board. He was active in the Cattlemen’s Association. He was a member and former deacon of Big Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ann & Richard Macdonald of King George, Virginia; two step-grandchildren: Mary Jones and Lee Macdonald; seven step-great-grandchildren: Courtney Jones, Jessica Jones, Wyatt Jones, Christopher Macdonald, Victoria Macdonald, Veronica Macdonald, and Ethan Macdonald; and a brother-in-law, Hubert & Jeanette Dickerson of Irwin County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Tina Mae Dickerson Bowen; his second wife, Ernestine Adams Bowen; and three brothers: William Bowen, Reason Mulkey, and Arthur Mulkey.
The family suggests those desiring to send memorials may send them in Mr. Bowen’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
