Obituary

Barbara A. Belcastro, 87 of Medford, died Monday March 30, after a long illness.

Born and raised in Medford, she lived several years in Lexington before returning to Medford. She was the daughter of the late Marion (McKenna) and Bartholomew Halmkin. Barbara was the youngest head nurse at Symmes Hospital in Arlington and opened the pediatric ward. While raising 6 children, she worked as a Visiting Nurse for Visiting Nursing of Lexington and retired from private nursing in 1981. She was a member of the Lady’s Sodality at St. Brigid Church in Lexington, Den Mother with the Medford Cub Scouts and on the Christian Service Committee at St. Raphael Church in Medford.

Beloved wife of the late Bernard J. Belcastro. Devoted mother of Marianne Belcastro, Daria Petrella and her husband John, Barbara Belcastro all of Medford, Bernard Belcastro and his wife Christine of Dorchester, Bart Belcastro and his wife Sonja of Bellingham, Barry and Kim Belcastro of Quincy. Also survived by 11 loving grandchildren and 11 loving great grandchildren. Sister of the late Helen Zalewski, Margaret Rump and William Halmkin.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Wednesday April 8, at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
