INDIO, Calif. - John Francis Souza, 66, formerly of Randolph, Mass., died Saturday, Jan. 29, at his home in Indio after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Maureen (Gildea) Souza.
Born Jan. 8, 1939, in Boston, he was the son of Mary (Barcellos) Souza of Raynham and the late John Souza.
Mr. Souza was an engineer for a local Massachusetts company for 35 years.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Mr. Souza was a longtime resident of Massachusetts, before retiring to Tucson, Ariz., then moved to Indio, where he had lived for the past two years.
He was an active member in Horticulture and Computer Societies in Tuscon, Ariz.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, John Souza Jr. and his wife Monique of Canton, Karen Souza-Cowgill and her husband Jim of Plainville and Renee Wassersug and her husband Steven of Plainville; a sister, Eunice Carney-Hart of Wellesley; his grandchildren, Patrick, Daniel, Monet, Michael, Matthew, Brian and John and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral will be held at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, from Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Bridgewater.
