Obituary

William Bernard “Bill” Coffey 88, of Wareham formerly of Newton Upper Falls died of Friday January 28, 2005 at the New England Medical Center in Boston. A native of Newton, Bill resided in Newton for over 80 years spending the last 40 years in Newton Upper falls before moving to Wareham three years ago. He graduated from Newton High School and later served with the National Guard. He joined the U.S. Marines during WWII where he served from 1944-1946. For many years he worked for the City of Newton as Foreman in the Public Works Department until his retirement in 1977. After his retirement Bill went to work for the Honeywell Corp. in Newton. Son of the late James B. and Josephine (Riley) Coffey, Bill was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis (Turner) who died January 23rd . Loving father of Gail V. Blanch and her husband David of Attleboro, Beth A. Lee and her husband David of Bellingham, Arthur F. and Debbie Matthews of Pocasset, Karen M. Higgins and her husband Paul of Millis, Paul J. and his fiancee Amy Lyon of Wayland and Daniel T. Coffey of Medway. Brother of Eunice Mc Carty of Fort Myers FL, Charles Coffey of Somerset, George Coffey of Swansea, the late Helen Till and James Coffey. Bill is also survived by his loving grandchildren; Jennifer and Tiffany Blanch and Paul and Sarah Higgins, his great grandson Tyler Blanch and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church Newton Upper Falls on Saturday Feb. 5th at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited . Visiting Hours at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave. Needham on Friday from 4-7 PM. Graveside services with his wife Phyllis will take place at Needham Cemetery at 11:15 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials in Bill's name may be made to the Salvation Army, 147 Berkeley Street, Boston MA 02116.
