Mary Virginia (Matthews) Curry, 88, of New Bedford, formerly of Fairhaven, died Saturday January 29, 2005 at Taber Street Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Paul R. Curry.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late William A. and Helena M. (Brady) Matthews, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life. She had resided at Oxford Terrace in Fairhaven for 15 years.
She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mrs. Curry was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a former member of the Catholic Women's Club and the Daughters of Isabella. She had been a volunteer driver for the Catholic Guild for the Blind. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1934.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara W. Costello of Melrose, Mary Ellen Hautanen of West Yarmouth, Anne E. Porter of New Bedford, and Paula M. Clarke Jacobs of Quincy; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.
She was the mother of the late Margaret F. Curry, and sister of the late Eleanor M. Lucier and Evelyn F. Wall.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Thursday February 3, 2005 at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday February 2, 2005 from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
