Obituary

Wilbur Andrew Dahl, 95 of Simsbury, CT, formerly of Farmington, CT; Lynchburg, VA; and Worcester, MA; passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, January 29, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. His beloved wife, Margaret Levin Dahl, predeceased him in 1970.

Born in Chicago, IL, June 20, 1909, he was the son of the late Rev. Edwin Swan Dahl and Signe Sofia Lofgren. He was a graduate of Brooklyn High School, Brooklyn, NY, and Clark University, Worcester, MA. He was a World War II veteran serving in the European Theatre, landing in Normandy on D-Day plus 75, and earning the European, African, Middle Eastern Ribbon; the Good Conduct Medal; and the Victory Medal. After the war he moved to Worcester, MA, and was employed by Norton Company Abrasives as an expediter. Following his retirement in 1982, he lived in Lynchburg, VA, for 10 years near his sisters and father. While in Virginia, he was an avid tennis and golf player, becoming a Virginia Senior Men’s doubles tennis champion for octogenarians in 1989. When he was in his 80’s he moved to Farmington, CT, to be near his children and grandchildren. He was a resident of Harborside Healthcare Governor’s House in Simsbury, CT.

He is survived by his children, Andrew W. Dahl and his wife Janice of Farmington, CT; Elaine Dahl Ogle and her fiancé Paul Minore of Guilford, CT; Kristina Dahl Osborn and her husband Stephen of Simsbury, CT; and Victoria Dahl Vickers and her husband, Cameron of Clinton, CT; five grandchildren, Kristina Dahl and her fiancé Darrell Adler of Stamford, CT; Jennifer Dahl Gallagher and her husband Timothy of New York, NY; Meredith Dahl of Washington, DC; Peter Osborn and Jeremy Osborn both of Simsbury; and a sister Elaine Dahl St. Vincent of Lynchburg, VA. Mr. Dahl was predeceased by his brother, Randle E. Dahl, of Cleveland Heights, OH, and his sister, Grace S. Dahl, of Lynchburg, VA.

Known for his quiet, gentle manner he will be lovingly missed by all who knew him. For his family, he was most importantly a loving husband, father and grandfather. Friends may gather in the parlor at First Church of Christ, 189 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT, on Monday, January 31, 4-7 PM to share memories with the family. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, February 1, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main Street, Worcester, MA.
