Florence D. (Dunham) Swift, 88, of Fairhaven, formerly of Mattapoisett died Wednesday January 26, 2005 at Alden Court Nursing and Rehabiliation Center after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Charles P. Swift.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Charles H. and Sylvia A. (Tripp) Dunham, she had lived in Acushnet for many years. She had lived at Village Court in Mattapoisett for 20 years before moving to Fairhaven.
Mrs. Swift was formerly employed at John I. Paulding Company in New Bedford for many years.
She was a member and Past President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Thomas E. Tuttle Post 7239 Ladies Auxiliary in Acushnet, and was a former member of Mattapoisett Senior Citizens. She enjoyed playing Bingo and crocheting.
Survivors include a son, Charles P. Swift, Jr., and his wife Joan E., of Freetown; a daughter, Joyce Collins Ruffley, and her husband Richard Ruffley, of Freetown; four grandchildren, Susan Gillis, Charlene Swift, Michael Swift, and Elizabeth Cabral; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Herbert Dunham, Louis Dunham, Harry Dunham, Ruth Murdock, and Louise Neagus.
Her family will receive visitors in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford on Sunday January 30, 2005 from 2-5 PM. A private family burial service will take place at Acushnet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
