Marilyn Johnson Davis of Dartmouth passed away on Sunday January 23, 2005 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston due to complications of pulmonary hypertension. She was the wife of Sheldon E. Davis, M.D.
Born and raised in Mattapoisett, the daughter of the late Louis E. and Alice (Barrow) Johnson, she lived in Dartmouth for many years. She was a graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy in Fairhaven, Lasell College in Newton and Boston College.
Mrs. Davis was formerly employed in the Social Services Department at St. Luke's Hospital as a resource consultant where her skills for finding financial aid for indigent patients were highly esteemed. After her marriage, she raised her family of two boys and later cared for her grandchildren whom she doted upon.
Mrs. Davis had been on the Board of Directors at the Zeiterion Theater and was also an active member of the St. Luke's Hospital Ladies Auxiliary where much of her time was successfully devoted to fundraising. She enjoyed discussing political issues in which she was well informed and articulate. She also displayed a passion for gardening, especially container gardening, and her flair and ingenuity were evident on her patio every year for her guests. Her friends and family will always remember her as a gourmet cook, this being a special interest of hers. Football was another major interest and she followed the New England Patriots with great enthusiasm. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was very much loved by her family who will miss her greatly. She was described by friends as kind, generous, and charitable.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Harry Johnson Davis of Boston, and William Todd Davis of New Bedford; and three grandchildren, Karen, Andrew and Emma.
Her family will receive visitors in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford on Thursday January 27, 2005 from 4-8 PM. Her Funeral Service and burial in Cushing Cemetery in Mattapoisett will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Schwartz Center for Children, 374 Rockdale Avenue, New Bedford, MA 02740.
