Margaret “Peg” Simmons age 80 of Brockton passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on March 22, 2015 at Signature Healthcare/Brockton Hospital. She was the wife of the late Frank Simmons. Peg was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late Harrison and May Allen and lived in Brockton her entire life.
Peg was the matriarch of loving and extended family. All who became her friend became her family. In her early years she worked in the garment industry of Brockton. Once she and her husband Frank started their own family, her life’s work was devoted to her family. This included not only her own children but also whenever she was needed as caretaker to her own grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Peg loved Bingo and would attend local games with her husband and often volunteered her time in running the games. She especially enjoyed gardening and would keep up the gardening and lawn care at the home she shared with her daughter.
Peg was the devoted mother of two sons Frank Simmons of Halifax and his wife Julia; Russell Simmons of Bridgewater and his former wife Mary of Avon and her daughter Patricia Stinson of Brockton. She leaves 7 grandchildren Bryan Simmons of Warren, RI; Matthew and Arron Stinson of Brockton, Lindsay Simmons of Fall River, Kristen Simmons of East Taunton, Shannon Simmons of Avon, Madison Simmons of Halifax and 5 great grandchildren Aiden Stinson and Autumn Stinson both of Brockton; Carrie Anne, Mckenna and Lyla Simmons-Holyoke all of Fall River. She was the sister of Barbara Nash of Abington, the late Robert, Patricia and Butch Allen. She also leaves two very special sisters- in-law Mert Lincoln of Bridgewater and Betsy Allen of Concord, NH and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and several loving friends.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home on Thursday 4-7 pm. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home Friday at noon. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peg’s name may be made to the Big Brother/Big Sister Foundation 5 Mear Road, Holbrook, MA 02343.
