Obituary

Gordon L. Crosby, 83, of Medway, died Friday, March 20, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Eleanor A. (McSherry) Crosby since 1955.

Born in Boston on September 27, 1931, he was the son of the late Louis G. and Florence M. (Savoy) Crosby. Mr. Crosby was a resident of Medway since 1960. He graduated from the former Boston Trade High School.

Mr. Crosby proudly served in the Navy and later in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Before his retirement, he worked at the Massachusetts State House as the state adjutant for our VFW Posts for fifteen years. He had previously worked as a truck driver for several area bakeries for many years.

A longtime member of the VFW, Mr. Crosby was a past commander of the Medway VFW Post 1526 and also of District 5. He also served as the State Commander from 1988-1989.

He served on the Medway Call Fired Department for several years and also as a Medway auxiliary police officer for two years.

Mr. Crosby volunteered at and organized the children’s Christmas party at the former State Hospital for crippled children in Canton for several years.

Besides his wife, he is also survived by three sons, Gary J. Crosby and his wife Pam of Bellingham, Paul G. Crosby and his wife Mary of Medway and Michael J. Crosby and his companion Robin of Framingham and a daughter Cathy Toth and her husband Steve of Bourne.

He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Jason P., Allyson, Kayla, Nicholas, Jeffrey, Gordon L. II, Lindsay and Jason M. Crosby, Daniel and Joshua Toth, Denise Salmon and Alissa and Joseph Young and four great-grandchildren, Caswell and Natalie Crosby, Tabitha Young and Serena Serrano.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) on Thursday, March 26 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Mr. Crosby’s memory may be made to the Barton Center for Diabetes Education, Inc., “Camp Joslin” P.O. Box 356, North Oxford, MA 01537.
