LOWELL—Robert J. Shockley, 65 years old, a resident of Lowell, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, January 22nd, at Saints Memorial Medical Center. He was the husband of Deanna (Johnsen) Shockley, with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage in November of 2004.
He was born in Griffin, GA, on November 5, 1939, a son of the late Nathan Thomas and Lucille (Byous) Shockley, and was a graduate of Griffin Spaulding High School. He received a certificate in Business Management from the former Lowell Technological Institute.
While with the United States Army, Mr. Shockley served with the Army Security Agency, at Fort Bragg, NC. For over 22 years he worked as a Plant Manager at Prince Corrugated, and more recently as a Maintenance Supervisor at Tewksbury Hospital. He was a former coach for the Lowell youth Hockey Association as well as the Shedd Park Baseball Minor League, and held membership in the Massachusetts Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association.
Surviving him besides his wife are a daughter and son-in-law: Karyn L. and Ezequiel Avila, of Pelham, NH; three sons: Randall S. Shockley, and his fiancé Dorothy White, of North Chelmsford; Keyth L. Shockley, of Dracut; and Greig A., and his wife Lisa Shockley, of Lowell; ten grandchildren: Ezequiel J. Avila; Kyle F., Kristin A., Leddy, Liam, Andrew, Adam, Greig, Jr., Ryan, and Kristy Shockley; a brother and sister-in-law: Nathaniel and Jeannette Shockley, of Griffin, GA; a sister: Faye Shockley, of Griffin, GA; also many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Dennis Nathan Shockley, who died in June of 1994; and brother of the late Hazel Van and Chester Shockley.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 PM on Wednesday, January 26th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His funeral service will be held Thursday, January 27th, at 1 PM at the funeral home. Private committal at the convenience of the family.
