Obituary

Olive G. (Stone) Shepeluk Degnan, 84, of Oxford, formerly of Worcester, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005. Olive was born in Framingham on December 31, 1920, daughter of Harold E. and Marion A. (Farrah) Stone and was raised in Leicester.


Olive graduated valedictorian of Leicester High School’s Class of 1939. She received many awards for literature and newspaper articles she had written. She was also an avid piano player. Following high school, Olive attended Simmons College in Boston. She graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as an R.N. Olive was employed by Wyman Gordon Company for many years. She was also employed at other medical facilities throughout her lifetime.


Olive was the mother of ten children. She is survived by George Shepeluk and Katherine Loutrel, M.D., both of Mahomet, Illinois; Barbara Simoncini, Michael W. Shepeluk and Ruth Miller, all of Oxford; Mary Bruck of Rindge, NH; and Sandra Evans and Dorothy Lopriore, both of Shrewsbury. A son, John D. Shepeluk; a daughter, Leslie K. Shepeluk; a brother, Harold “June” E. Stone, Jr.; and a sister, Barbara Olund predeceased her. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.


Olive studied the bible avidly and had, above all, a true love of God. She was a lover of animals and nature. Olive was a beautiful, intelligent, caring, loving woman who was delightfully silly and had a kind and gentle soul. She devoted her life to sharing her love of God through her gentle nature. Olive will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate to have known her.


A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, in Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester. A calling hour will be held at 1:00 prior to the service.
