Obituary

Marjorie A. (Brightman) Holden, 89, of Westport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at St. Anne’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late William A. Holden.
Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Henry W. and Vivian A. (Borden) Brightman, she was a lifelong resident of Westport. She was a 1943 graduate of Westport High School and then went on to graduate from the former F.G. Allen Business School, Fall River. She was the vice president and treasurer of the former Holden Auto Parts and co-owner of the former W.A. and M.A. Holden Enterprises d/b/a Carvel Ice Cream and Subland all of Fall River. Mrs. Holden was a two term Selectman for the Town of Westport while also serving as Police Commissioner. She had once received the Governor’s appointment to serve on the Westport Housing Authority. She was on the Finance Committee for 8 years and worked with the Board of Health Nursing Department of Westport. She worked as a poll worker for Precinct E for 15 years and was on the Westport Republican Town Committee serving as treasurer for many years. She was a member of the Westport United Congregational Church and past member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Fall River.
Mrs. Holden was a 70 year member and Past Matron of the Cortez Allen Chapter No. 161, O.E.S. She served as Deputy Grand Matron in 1971, Grand Warder from 1985-86 and Grand Representative Supreme Grand Chapter of Scotland for the Grand Chapter in Massachusetts. She also served as Grand Representative of Arizona for the Grand Chapter in Rhode Island.
Mrs. Holden was Past Master of the former Watuppa Grange and also a member of POMONA.
Survivors include her 2 sons: William B. Holden of Texarkana, TX and David B. Holden and his wife Nancy of Bow, NH; 2 grandchildren: Costica J.H and Annika V.H. Holden; 1 brother: Clifford A. Brightman and his wife Judith; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
She was the sister of the late Ali V. Brightman.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 P.M. with an Eastern Star Service at 6:00 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cortez Allen Chapter No. 161, O.E.S., 367 Rock O’Dundee Rd., S. Dartmouth, MA 02748 or to the Marie Poussepin Outreach Fund, 3012 Elm St., Dighton, MA 02715.
