SALEM - John F. Fleming, age 86, died peacefully at home in his sleep Tuesday morning Jan 18,
after a brief battle with Cancer. He is the husband of 35 years to Dorothy “Dottie” (Johnston)
(Tedder) Fleming.
He was born and raised in Charlestown, Feb 17, 1918, a son of the Late William and Ellen
(Sullivan) Fleming. He worked for the Forestry Department in Vermont during the Depression.
He served in the US Army during WWII in the 166 Army Corp of Engineers working with
Explosives. He received the Purple Heart. Mr. Fleming worked at the Boston Naval Shipyard for
30 years.
Besides his wife he is survived by six sons: John F. Fleming Jr. and his wife Karen of Orlando,
Ronald C. Fleming and his wife Cindy of Manchester, Richard C. Fleming and his wife Noreen of
Townsend, James F. Fleming and his wife Kathleen of Lowell, Brian Fleming and his wife Ellen of
Dracut, Paul K. Fleming and his wife Sandra of Tewksbury; two daughters Patricia and her
husband William Quigley of Chelmsford, and Virginia Dalton of Lowell. One step-son John
“Jack” Tedder. One sister Mary (Fleming) O’Donnell of Winthrop. 21 Grandchildren, many
many Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Brother
of the late Joseph, James “Jimmy”, William “Mickey”, Edward, Ann, William, John Fleming and
Helen Nispel.
