Betty Jane Spadafora

TEWKSBURY - Betty Jane (Grigg) Spadafora, age 90, a well known member of the Senior Community in Tewksbury, died unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, March 17, at LGH’s Saints Campus. She was the beloved wife of Leonard Spadafora, with whom she had celebrated a 40th wedding anniversary this past December 13th.
She was born in Toledo, Ohio, on June 17, 1924, one of five children of the late Thomas and Effie (Heath) Grigg. She graduated from Toledo High School, and enlisted into the signal corps of the U.S. Navy. She was honorably discharged as a Radioman 3c. She lived in Abington, Lawrence, Methuen and Medford before settling in Tewksbury in 1979.
She was an executive secretary at AVCO in Wilmington. Later was a draftsperson at RCA in Burlington and Millipore in Bedford. She finished her career at her husband’s engineering firm, LSI Engineering as office manager.
In her senior years, she and her husband were active in the organization and catering of numerous functions and events at the Tewksbury Senior Center. For years she and her husband bred and showed miniature schnauzers.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three children, Louis M. Franek of FL, Thomas N. Franek of Methuen, and Betty Jeanne Franek of Weare, NH; four grandchildren, L. Michael Franek of FL, Derek Franek of NH, Kerri Franek of FL, and Nicole B. Carmon of NC; one great granddaughter, MacKenzie Franek of NH; and many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Alma Benore, Thomas Grigg, Irma Grigg, and Mary Bousonville.
