New Bedford – Maria C. Sousa, age 89 of New Bedford, passed away on Monday March 16, 2015 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the widow of Joao Sousa and the daughter of Maria Isabel and Bento Craveiro.
Mrs. Sousa was born in St. Michael, Azores, came to this country in 1967 and worked as a stitcher until her retirement.
Her family includes 2 children: David L. Sousa and his wife, Maria, of New Bedford and the late John Carlos Sousa and his widow, Pamela Sousa; 3 grandchildren:, Susan Sousa, Michelle Pacheco and Melissa Sousa; 3 great grandchildren: Darien Sousa Bizarro, Quinn Pacheco and Ethan Pacheco. Maria is also survived by 2 sisters and a brother as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by 2 sisters.
Her funeral will be Thursday beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 -8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
