WEBSTER – Gladys S. (Skarbek) Hanieski, 89, of 22 Lincoln Street, died Saturday, January 15, at home. Her husband of 46 years, Frank J. Hanieski, died in 1986.
She leaves two sons, Dr. John F. Hanieski and his wife Deanna D. of Grand Ledge, MI, and Richard S. Hanieski of East Brookfield; 3 brothers, Stanley Skarbek of Boston, John Skarbek of Texas, and Louis Skarbek of Bradford; many nieces and nephews.
She was born in Webster and raised in Oxford, the daughter of Joseph and Sophie M. (Chmielewicz) Skarbek. She lived in Worcester and Taunton before moving to Webster 30 years ago. She attended Oxford High School.
Mrs. Hanieski worked for 30 years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in rehabilitation. She operated the beauty shop at the Paul Dever School in Taunton for 20 years. She also was a home health aide for the Samaritan Association in Webster for 10 years before retiring in 1993.
She was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica and its Saint Anne Society, Holy Rosary Sodality and Sacred Heart Society. She was a devoted wife and mother, and will be missed.
The funeral will be held Thursday, January 20, from Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. A calling period will be from 8:15 to 9:15 AM Thursday morning at the funeral home.
