Obituary

FALL RIVER -- Thomas M. Humphreys, 83, of Dartmouth died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Catholic Memorial Home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the widower of Johanna M. (Berwind) Humphreys; they were married 47 years.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Genevieve (Riley) Humphreys.
Mr. Humphreys served in the Army during World War II in the 748th Anti-Artillery Battalion. He survived a torpedo attack and the sinking of the Henry R. Mallory in the North Atlantic.
He worked in the International Department of Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City for 35 years; he retired in 1982 as assistant treasurer. He worked part time until he was 78.
He was devoted to his family, had a strong work ethic and loved to be around people. He was thrilled to work briefly in California as an extra in 12 Hollywood movies. He was the companion of Mimi Moya of North Dartmouth for the past 13 years; they enjoyed traveling and entertaining friends.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas C. Humphreys of Holbrook, N.Y., Matthew Humphreys of Fort Collins, Colo., and Philip Humphreys of Binghamton, N.Y.
