Lanny R. "Sugar" Pires, 73, of New Bedford died March 7, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
He was the husband of Estelle (Tavares) Pires.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John B. and Mary (Lessa) Pires, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Pires was formerly employed by Standard-Times for many years until his retirement.
He was an avid New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan Mr. Pires enjoyed to fish.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Dino Pires and Lance Wedge, both of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Roxanne Pires and Danielle Pires, both of New Bedford; a brother, David Pires of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren, Jaylee Pires, Keith Pires, Ross Pires, Trina Strawn and Torell Strawn; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Cynthia Ramos and Howard Pires.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 14th at 9 AM in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
