Obituary

CHICOPEE – Anita J. (Bissonnette) Gosciminski Bernier, 82, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, March 7, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life from her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Springfield on February 9, 1933, a beloved daughter of the late Charles H. and Cecilia (Blais) Bissonnette. Her early years were spent in the Brightwood section of Springfield and later in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield. She then moved to Chicopee and, since 1988, had been a resident of the Aldenville section of the city. Anita was employed for many years as a special needs driver for the former Holyoke Street Railway Company and later the School Time Transportation Company in Holyoke. She enjoyed watching QVC and was one of their “best customers”. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend of 38 years, Eugene J. Bernier Sr.; her four loving sons, Chester Gosciminski and his partner, Danielle Plouffe, of Northampton, Thomas Gosciminski and his wife, Sharon, of Easthampton, Anthony Gosciminski of Chicopee and Michael Gosciminski and his wife, Karen, of Granby; her loving step-son, Eugene J. Bernier, Jr. of Westfield; her many cherished grandchildren; her three loving sisters and one brother, Pauline Sagan of Chicopee, Lorraine Rezzani of Westfield, Aline Beaulieu of Belchertown and Robert Bissonnette of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Bernier, Gosciminski and Bissonnette families. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by several loving brothers and sisters. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, March 13, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
