Obituary

Francis J. ‘Honka’ Meads, 87 died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 4th surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Ruth (Enos) Meads.

Born in Provincetown, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Veara) Meads. He was a graduate of Provincetown High School, where he was an outstanding basketball player, and a member of the first Provincetown Basketball team to win the Southeastern Mass District Championship in 1946. After graduation, he joined the US Army and was a member of the Japanese Occupation Force under General Douglas MacArthur.

Upon his return to Provincetown he did carpentry work and later fished commercially. In the early 1960’s, he and his brother Bob started Meads Brothers Plumbing and Heating, which he ran until his retirement in the late 90’s. After retirement, he still spent much time at the office dispensing advice and chatting with friends.

Mr. Meads was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Parish and the Lewis Young Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.

In addition to his loving wife of 64 years, daughters Linda Farroba and her husband Joe of North Attleboro, Karen Roderick and her husband Keith of Provincetown survive him. Grandchildren Justine and John Farroba; Jacob Roderick; Scott and Lisa Martin; Corey and Erin Hussey, as well as many great grandchildren also survive him. He was predeceased by daughters Gloria Martin and Diane Hussey.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass to be held Tuesday March 10th at 10:00 am in St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince Street, Provincetown. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery in the spring.
