Obituary

Barclay, Suzanne Whittemore 74, of Dover, Massachusetts and Kennebunkport, Maine, died March 3rd at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Suzanne, known as Sue, was born January 11, 1941, the daughter of A.L. Whittemore and Helen Hurley Whittemore. She is survived by her loving husband J. Bruce Barclay, her children Bonnie, Lorrie, Ryan, Jedd, Sean and his fiancée, Amanda; and Todd and his wife, Dori. She is also survived by her grandsons Aiden James and J. Broderick.

Sue was born in Roslindale and raised in West Roxbury. She was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy. In 1962 she graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. and later received her Master’s degree from Boston College. Sue worked at the United Nations as a translator and then as a high school language teacher, before dedicating herself to raising her six children. Sue, of continued faith, enjoyed time spent by the ocean, writing poetry, antiques, tennis, and entertaining, as well as being a grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty& Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St (Rt.16) Wellesley, Monday March 9 at 9AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Most Precious Blood Church, Dover at 10AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours in the funeral home, Sunday March 8, from 4-7pm. Interment following the Mass in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Suzanne Barclay may be made to the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center in support of the Fund for Glioma Research.
