BATTISTA - of Brockton January 13, 2005 Ruth B. (Brown) Battista, 82 years. Beloved wife of the late Domenic M. Battista. Loving mother of Jacqueline Quigley of Brockton, Linda A. Hayes of Dracut, and Deborah Cruise of Canton. Cherished grandmother of 6 and 7 great-grandchildren. Also survived by many brothers, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service in the Christ Congregational Church, 1350 Pleasant St., Brockton Saturday at 10 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours in the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Friday 4-8 pm. Mrs. Battista died Thursday morning at the West Acres Nursing Home after a long illness. Born, raised and educated in Amory, Mississippi area, she was the daughter of the late Archie L. and Pearl (Hester) Brown. After Mrs. Battista left Amory, Mississippi, she went to Memphis to work in defense at the Fisher Aircraft Company. While there Ruth met and married her husband Domenic, a soldier from Newton, MA who was stationed at Kennedy Army Hospital in Memphis. After returning to Massachusetts in 1944, Ruth was employed with Raytheon located in Newton, they eventually moved to Burlington in 1954. She had been a Brockton resident since 1977 after moving into Belair Senior Housing, she worked at the Senior Library, was the past Vice President of the Tenants Association for one year and was the secretary for two and a half years. Ruth was an avid reader and a published poet.
She is survived by three daughters, Jacqueline Quigley of Brockton, Linda A. Hayes of Dracut, and Deborah Cruise of Canton, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, three brothers, E. Boyd Brown of Nettleton, MS., Belton A. Brown of Amory, MS., James H. Brown of Paradise, CA. and three half brothers, George W. Brown of Westland, MI., Willy E. Brown of Amory, MS., Floyd W. Brown of Lake Havasu, AZ and many nieces and nephews
