Charles W. Costa, 57, of Los Angeles, California died Wednesday January 5, 2005 unexpectedly at home.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of Angelina (Pina) Costa of New Bedford and the late Charles "Toby" Costa, he had lived in California for many years.
He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and California State University in Los Angeles where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business Management.
Mr. Costa was employed by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Social Services. He had previously been employed with Postal Instant Press.
During the Vietnam War, Mr. Costa served in the U.S Navy and was a recipient of the Vietnam Service medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal and the National Defense Service medal. He had also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
He enjoyed playing tennis and traveling.
Survivors include his mother; three sisters, Marlene L. Barros and Debra M. Costa, both of New Bedford, and Diane M. Hodge of South Dartmouth; two brothers, Bruce J. Costa of Los Angeles and Michael Costa of Boston; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday January 15, 2005 at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Friday January 14, 2005 from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
