WILFRED H. CREIGHTON, age 71, of Plymouth and Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Hingham, died on Sunday, Jan. 9th at the Beverly Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth after a brief illness. Mr. Creighton was born, raised and educated in Quincy, graduating from Quincy High School. He then graduated from Bentley College in Waltham and Brown University in Providence, RI. He was a banker by profession and for over 30 years was the President and CEO of the Hingham Institution for Savings. He lived in Hingham for over 40 years before retiring to Plymouth and Bradenton, Florida 10 years ago.
Mr. Creighton was well known in Hingham and was active in the affairs of the community.
He was a member of the Hingham Rotary Club, and a youth baseball coach in Hingham for both the Little League and Babe Ruth Leagues.
He leaves his wife Jean (Westmoreland) Terry-Creighton of Plymouth; his son, David W. Creighton of Scituate; two daughters, Denise C. Lovell of Norwell and Dawna J. Creighton of Quincy; two step-sons, William Terry of Florida and Robert Terry of Hingham; a brother, Roland A. Creighton of East Bridgewater; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Diane M. Katz and the late Deborah L. Bird.
A Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 14th at 11 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.
Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel on Thursday evening from 4-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Second Congregational Church of Plymouth, State Road, Manomet, MA 02345.
The interment is to be private.
