Eugene J. Bessette, 80, of New Bedford died January 10, 2005 at home after a long illness. He was the husband of Marjorie E. (Kelley) Bessette.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late George and Elvira (Souza) Bessette, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Bessette was formerly employed by General Dynamics in Quincy for many years until its closing and later worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing in New Bedford. In his retirement, he worked in the cafeteria at New Bedford High School.
During World War II, he served in the U. S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Paul Bessette and his wife Carol of New Hampshire, and Wayne Bessette and his wife Patricia of Florida; two daughters, Doreen Benedetti of New Bedford, and Christine Brown and her husband Rick of Fairhaven; an aunt, Alice Veary of Acushnet; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three nieces.
He was the brother of the late Roland Bessette.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday, January 12th at 10 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday, January 11th from 4-7 PM. Interment Massachusetts National Cemetery.
